A minimal topo-style design: flowing contour lines around a wide bend in the river, framed in a square with KNOXVILLE spelled out underneath and the coordinates of downtown.
The contours are artwork, drawn to evoke the terrain rather than copied from a survey map. The real landscape fits: the Tennessee River bends past downtown with rolling ridges and valleys around it, country shaped by the Cumberland Plateau on one side and the Smoky Mountains on the other.
