The Knoxville ridgeline, framed and ready to hang. Drawn from real elevation data for Knoxville, Tennessee.
This one is real data. We took elevation data for a 20 x 20 mile square centered on downtown Knoxville, sliced it into west-to-east profiles, and stacked them from north to south. Every bump on every line is actual terrain, smoothed a little so the lines print clean.
Inside the square, the ground runs from about 812 feet to about 1,698 feet, roughly 900 feet of relief. The rises trace ridges like Bays Mountain, Sharp's Ridge and House Mountain, with the Tennessee River, Holston River and French Broad River cutting through the lower ground.

Ridges like House Mountain and Bays Mountain rise above the valley floor, while the Tennessee River and its tributaries carve the lower, flatter stretches.
