This is the NC&StL Depot, the 1907 railroad passenger depot that still stands downtown with its long low profile, wide overhanging eaves and bay window facing the tracks. It is a direct link to the rail lines that made Jackson the Hub City.

Jackson sits on land acquired from the Chickasaw by an 1818 treaty negotiated by Andrew Jackson. Settlers moved in fast, and Madison County was formed in 1821. The town was first called Alexandria, then renamed Jackson in 1822 to honor Andrew Jackson, who later became president.
The Forked Deer River made Jackson a natural trading crossroads, and the rich soil around it built a cotton economy. Rail arrived in 1857, and lines like the Illinois Central and Mobile and Ohio turned Jackson into a real commercial hub. That's where Casey Jones comes in. He was an Illinois Central engineer who died in a 1900 train collision and became the city's most famous name.
Jackson kept growing through the 20th century as a West Tennessee trade center, and the city's history is still visible downtown and at Casey Jones Village, which preserves his home and the old railroad story.
