The Engraved Valley design from our Chattanooga, Tennessee collection, on a crewneck sweatshirt.
Old-school engraved artwork in burnt orange: the sun coming up over layered ridges, a sandstone bluff on the left, and the river bending through the valley below. CHATTANOOGA arches across the top, with TENNESSEE · EST. 1839 underneath.
1839 is the year the town was incorporated. Chattanooga got its charter on December 20, 1839, starting with just fifty-three families, the year after Ross's Landing took the name Chattanooga.
Chattanooga was incorporated on December 20, 1839. The settlement had been known as Ross's Landing until it took the name Chattanooga in 1838.
Most accounts trace it to a Creek phrase meaning "rock coming to a point," a reference to Lookout Mountain.
